ADSL
Broadband
What
is ADSL Broadband, and how can it benefit you?
ADSL
Broadband is a fast communication technology involving
your phone line and everything connected to it. This
includes your phone, fax machine, and most
importantly, your Internet connection.
Many
of you no doubt are familiar with the scene. You
connect to the ‘Net, and then go and make a hot
drink while you wait for the web page to load. Without
a doubt, the one thing we all unanimously wish for is
-- speed!
This
is one benefit of ADSL Broadband. While current
Internet connections download a web page in a minute
or so, ADSL will download it in 3 seconds. ADSL is at
least 20 times the speed of most current Internet
connections.
Along
with speed, ADSL has the advantage of giving you two
phone lines. It does this by ‘splitting’ your
current line into 2 separate channels. This means you
can use the Internet, and at the same time make or
receive phone calls. ADSL does away with the need for
a second phone line.
ADSL
Broadband also differs from current Internet
connections in that ADSL is a permanent connection.
This means you don’t need to ‘dial up’ to your
Internet provider, but instead just open your Internet
browser, and the web page appears immediately. This
saves on all those local call costs clocked up by
current Internet connections.
As
well as saving you on local call costs, ADSL Broadband
is easy on your budget. If you use Dodo Internet,
their plans start from only $24.90 per month. If you
go with Bigpond, their ADSL plans start from $29.95
per month. Bigpond is also offering a free ADSL
startup kit (normally $189.00) to all new ADSL
customers till April 15th, 2005. Other providers are
available also.
ADSL
Broadband does however have one limitation. To access
ADSL, your home or business must be within 4 klms of
your local telephone exchange.
Kingaroy
and Nanango currently have ADSL available, but it is
not as yet available in other local areas. The
Yarraman exchange will be ADSL capable shortly, if we
can raise 10 more expressions of interest. Blackbutt
and other exchanges also have expressions of interest,
but we need more. If you are interested in using ADSL,
we ask that you express to Telstra your interest. You
can do this through the ADSL demand register. Telstra
has setup this register to log the amount of interest
in ADSL for a particular exchange. When sufficient
numbers of people indicate their interest, Telstra
will upgrade their exchange to ADSL capability. Why
not register now! You can find the ADSL register at
www.telstra.com.au/demand/index.cfm
ADSL will save time
and money, while providing you extra phone line
features. To find out more or to setup ADSL Broadband,
phone Michael on 0419 790 071, or email us info@mcsyarraman.com.au.
We will be happy to assist you.
