Sending Emails

Many of you no doubt have heard of emails. Emails are fast becoming the norm when it comes to keeping in contact with relatives, friends and businesses.

An email is essentially a letter or note typed on your computer, which you then send to the receiver via the Internet. This article will give you a few tips on writing an email, and how to send them.

The majority of emails can be written directly from within your email program. Popular email programs include Outlook Express, Outlook, and Incredimail. For this article we will be using Outlook Express, but the process for writing an email within other programs is essentially the same.

Open up your email program, and in the upper left, you will see Create Mail. This opens a new window, in which you can type.

The first item to type is the email address of the person or business you want to send the email to. This address will typically be your friend or relatives personal ID, together with their Internet provider or website. For example, our email address is: info (that’s me) at (@) our Internet website (mcsyarraman.com.au).

Once you have ‘addressed’ your email, next is to type the subject. This can be anything you wish, however this usually contains a brief sentence or phrase outlining the reason for the email.

Next, in the larger window underneath, you can type the body of your letter or note. You can add bold or italics, change text colour and font, and even add formatting and pictures.

Once you have typed your message, and you don’t intend to added anything else, you can click Send in the upper left corner of the window. Provided you are connected to the Internet, your email will now be sent to the receiver.

Sometimes before you send the email, you may wish to attach another document, photo, or other type of file. To do this is relatively simple.

At the top of the window in which you have been working, you will see the Insert menu. Click this, and then File Attachment. This will open another window, which will let you navigate around your computer to where the document, photo, or file is located. Once you find the file, click it, and then click Attach. You will notice that the file to be included now shows below the Subject line.

If you want to send more than one attachment with your email (common if you are sending photos), simply repeat the above process for each photo.

Finally, a note on sending photos by email. Make sure the photo you are sending is no larger in file size than 200kb. If you are unsure of its size, go ahead and add the photo, and its size will appear under the Subject line along with its name. If it is too large, right click on the photo name, and click Remove.

For help, you can call us on 4163 8061 during business hours, or email us at info@mcsyarraman.com.au.
